Vikram Chandra on going from novel to Netflix

Vikram Chandra’s latest novel, Sacred Games, has been made into a Netflix series. Many of you, I know, would be happy enough just to hear about that experience. It’s the secret (or not so secret) dream of the majority of us who would relish seeing our work on a big or small screen—and who might be looking for some footsteps to follow.

But Vikram’s first novel, Red Earth and Pouring Rain, won the 1996 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book in 1996. His collection of short stories, Love and Longing in Bombay, won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book (Eurasia region) and was short-listed for the Guardian Fiction Prize. Changing genres, Geek Sublime: The Beauty of Code, the Code of Beauty, Vikram’s nonfiction, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

So, I think there’s a lot more to ask Vikram Chandra than how he went from novel to Netflix. To find out what I did ask, and how Vikram answered, you can watch and listen to our recent discussion here (or click on the image below).

Watch the video below to see what we’re promising, and go to my Events page for a full syllabus.
